Freedom Indiana is traveling the state to garner support for adding sexual preference and gender identity to the list of protected classes in Indiana.
The grassroots group has meetings planned in five communities across the state. The tour kicked off Monday night in Columbus.
A group of around 15 people showed up to the Bartholomew County Public Library to learn about Freedom Indiana’s goals and discuss their life experiences.
Dr. Leah Jackman-Wheitner was among them.
“I picked up one of their forms tonight about how to write a letter and kind of the things you might want to think about including, so I would do that in concert with them just because they’ve already got all those resources available,” she says.
Last year, Freedom Indiana mobilized in response to RFRA and in 2013, they ran a successful campaign against Indiana’s proposed ban on same sex marriage.
Senate Republicans announced their own non-discrimination bill last month that would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity while providing exceptions for religious institutions.
Freedom Indiana will be visiting Indianapolis, Bloomington, Valparaiso, and Terre Haute in the next two weeks.SHARE THIS STORY
