Freedom Indiana statement on the first day of the 2016 Indiana General Assembly January 5, 2016
INDIANAPOLIS — Freedom Indiana, the statewide grassroots organization fighting to update existing Indiana laws against discrimination to include gay and transgender Hoosiers, issued the following statement about the first day of the 2016 legislative session.

As the legislative session gets formally underway, we look forward to continuing the conversation at the Statehouse and with Hoosiers about the need to update our civil rights law to include protections for gay and transgender people.

“A majority of Hoosiers have spoken, and they have made it clear that doing nothing is not an option, nor are half-measures that don’t truly protect the people they are intended to protect. We hope lawmakers hear our voice and understand that we speak for tens of thousands of Hoosiers who desperately want our state to be an open, welcoming and safe place for everyone.”
